  1. Difference between Water Softeners and Water Purifiers

    Post by : Zerob

    Water Softener or Purifier

What is the difference between water softeners and purifiers?
Which is better, water softener or purifier?
Do you need to take water softener or water purifier?
What purpose do water softeners and purifiers serve?
What is the biggest difference between softeners and purifiers?

Water Softeners and Purifiers serve different purposes.

Water Softeners help in making hard water soft. Hardness of water is caused by the presence of salts of calcium and magnesium in water. If you experience less foaming on use of soap with your water then the reason can be because of the water being hard. Hard water also causes the problem of scaling in kitchen utensils and in pipes. So if the water that you are getting in your home is “Hard” then all you need to do is install a water softener which can reduce the hardness of the water.

Water Purifiers however serve a different purpose. Their purpose is to remove the contaminants present in water. These contaminants can be in the form of biological, chemical and physical impurities. The purification process removes the suspended solids, disease causing bacteria and viruses and harmful chemicals that may be present in water and that may adversely affect our health.

    Water containing Hydrogen Sulfide Gas

How to remove Sulphur in water?
Can you remove Sulphur inside water?
What are the different ways to remove Sulphur in water?
How much quantity of Sulphur is found in water?
Where are Sulphur containing minerals found?

Sulfur water is a condition where the water contains a high amount of hydrogen sulfide gas, giving it a distinct “rotten egg” smell. When sulfur enters groundwater, naturally occurring bacteria can reduce the organic sulfite ores and produce hydrogen sulfide gas.

Sulfur is more likely to be found in well water or underground water than in municipal water. Sulfates, which are a form of the element sulfur, most commonly get into the water when sulfite ores are oxidized. Sulfur-containing minerals are found in most rocks and soils around the world. As groundwater trickles through the earth, some of these sulfur compounds get dissolved in water. Rainwater is also a source of sulfur.

Sulphur may also be present in poorly treated city water, or through water heater contamination.

It is alarming to note that studies from The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have indicated that large quantities of sulfur in drinking water can contribute to diarrhea, which leads to dehydration, particularly in infants.

Hence, it is essential to remove sulphur from water so that the laxative effects from the mineral does not take an ugly turn. This can easily be done by using Zerob’s NGMA Carbon Filter Water.

The water coming out from such filters can be used safely in housing societies, hotels, shopping malls, and corporate parks, bungalows, institutions etc .

Not only that, NGMA Carbon Filter, also removes chlorine and organic matter from water.

Moreover, the water coming out from such ZeroB filter can be used for pre Treatment for Reverse Osmosis plants, boiler feed and cooling towers.

  4. Which filtration method should we use if the water in our home has high levels of suspended impurities (TDS)?

    RO Water System

How to filter water with impurities?
Which filtration method is the best?
How to remove TDS in regular water?
How much level of TDS is found in home water?
Is it necessary to clean tanks regularly?

These days it is difficult to get pure, clean and safe drinking water in abandon-growing population, industrial development and environmental degradation are all causes for this. Given this situation, it is prudent for us to be aware of purification techniques and the available water purifiers in the market to ensure that our drinking water is of good quality.

There are various sources of drinking water, viz: lakes, rivers, ponds, borewells, water tankers, harvested rain water, etc.

Generally water drawn from bore-wells or those supplied by tankers is likely to have a higher concentration of TDS and other harmful chemicals such as lead, arsenic, fluride, etc. Tanks constructed to store water can also contaminate water, if not cleaned properly and from time to time.

A RO-based water purifier removes dissolved salts/impurities and chemicals from water. Therefore, if the water in our home, has high level of TDS and other impurities (more than 500 ppm, the upper limit set by the BIS), then the obvious choice would be to go for a RO-based water purifier.

    pH Level of water

Does RO purifier affect the pH level of water?
How does RO purifier affect the pH of water?
What is the pH scale for water?
What is the pH value of our stomach acid?
What is the pH level of our neutral body?

The RO Purifier has very little effect on the pH of water.

Water pH levels automatically change as it comes in contact with food stuff in our stomach.

RO water has pH value between 6 and 8. The neutral pH level is considered to be of 7.4.

Our body regulates the Ph levels constantly and under normal conditions maintains it at this neutral value. The lesser the Ph value the more acidic the substance is. In empty conditions our stomach acid has a pH value of 2. Some liquids like orange juice has a pH value of 3, coffee has a ph value of 4 while milk has a pH value of 6.5.

So, RO Purifiers does not alter the pH level water

Is there any need to remove minerals inside water?
What are the reasons to remove minerals in water?
Does minerals inside water affect your body?
Is it necessary to check the quality of water before installation?
What problems can minerals in water cause?

Tap water contains various minerals but these minerals are unhealthy as they are poorly absorbed by our bodies.

These minerals if not eliminated from our bodies may cause arterial obstruction or internal damage and can also give rise to many degenerative diseases – like kidney stones, arthritis, gall stones, glaucoma, cataracts, hearing loss, diabetes, obesity, etc.

Is it necessary to check the quality of water before installation?
RO Purifiers can help remove the minerals present in water. The molecules of minerals are larger than the molecules of water and hence in the RO filtration process the Mineral molecules are removed from water.

So, before you install a Water purifier at home please check the quality of your water so that the right type of purifier can be installed. Call the ZeroB water experts and get your water tested.

    Mineral Drinking Water

Do you need minerals in your water?
Can you use water without minerals?
How does minerals in water help?
What to consider when buying a purifier?
Does our body need minerals in organic form?

    The Answer is NO!.

Our body does not need minerals that are available in water.

Our body needs water to keep it Hydrated.

The Minerals that are present in tap water are Inorganic Minerals which cannot be assimilated by the human body and hence comes of no use to us.

Our body needs minerals in Organic form to be useful for our bodies and that can be found in fruits and vegetables but not in Water.

So while buying a Water Purifier you do not have to consider whether the purifier you are buying will diminish the mineral content or increase it or keep it intact. What we should be worried of is whether the purifier can remove the contaminants present in tap water.

    Does drinking water contain iron?
What are harmful effects of iron in water?
Do you need to remove the iron in regular water?
How can you remove iron salts?
    Is iron contamination common?

If your water that you use at home is leavingh stains in your clothes, rust in your taps or stains on your tiles, basin, sink, etc then your water might be contaminated with Iron.

Iron contamination of water is quite a common problem due to the fact that iron is found almost everywhere on the earth’s surface. Iron salts in water can be removed in several ways most of which involves the oxidation of the iron salts in water so that it becomes insoluble and precipitates out, after which it is filtered out.

The most common method of removing iron from borewell water is by using oxidising media filters for iron like Manganese Greensand and Pyrolusite or a catalysing media like BIRM. It is also possible to treat well water for the removal of iron by other means such as Ion Exchange media. In case your water is Iron Contaminated, you will need to consult an expert in water treatment to decide the best equipement for well water with high iron. D-FERROUS is one of the best softners from ZeroB, which can effectively remove Iron from water.

Do consult the water experts at Zero B.

What are some methods to remove arsenic from water?
    Filter for Bore-Well Water

How to use the right filter for your bore-well water?
How to know if you’re using the right filter?
How do you select the right filter for water?
What is the best way to purify your water?
What are some methods to remove arsenic from water?

If you are having bore-well water it is extremely important to do a water test to find the type of contaminants present in the water.

The water purifier or filter needs to be selected Based on the results of the water test, the water purifier or filter needs to be selected to clean the well water make it fit for drinking.

If the test results proves that the well water is safe and does not have any contaminants above the maximum contaminant level as recommended by the Indian Water Standards, then all you need to do is to install a simple Activated Carbon filter to remove any odours and to improve the taste of water.

If the test results point towatrds the presence of Arsenic, then the best way to purify your well-water will be to use a Reverse Osmosis or RO purifier unit. There are other methods to remove Arsenic from well water but RO is the most practical and reliable way to get rid of Arsenic from water.

Arsenic is a major problem of borewell water in many parts of the world. Since Arsenic salts in well water has no smell or taste, you will not know about the presence of Arsenic in water unless the water is tested.
So testing for Arsenic is imperative when using well water for drinking.

Drinking water with Arsenic can cause severe damage to health. Arsenic poisoning is cumulative, that means any Arsenic that gets into your body does not get removed, but stays and accumulates there. As you continue to drink the Arsenic contaminated water, you get slowly poisoned and over a period of time it will lead to severe health problems.
